Dear Supporter,
Welcome to the September edition of the Peace Action e-newsletter. Here at the national office, we've endured an earthquake, a hurricane, and now flooding rain, but we're not slowing down for any of it.
In this edition, we bring you our plans for the Fall, an analysis of the ongoing debt crisis and the deals that are putting criticial social services at risk, and a glimpse at what one of our affiliates, Peace Action Montgomery, is doing about it.
Onward,
Kevin Martin
Executive Director

In Maryland, a new state-wide coalition has been created called “Fund Our Communities, Bring the War Dollars Home.” Representing tens of thousands of people in the state, this coalition aims to ensure that the needs of the people of Maryland are addressed and, as a key way to fund what we need in this country, that the bloated military budget is substantially reduced and overseas wars and occupations ended. The October 21-22, 2011, Peace in Asia-Pacific: Alternatives to Asia-Pacific Militarization conference In Washington, DC, is a capacity building conference for activists who want to learn more about US foreign policy in the region and hear from representatives of Asian governments, specialists and peace movements.
The peace and justice movements are challenged to address growing U.S.-Chinese military tensions and the related arms race which is driving Pentagon spending, the impacts of U.S. military bases across the region, and territorial disputes between Japan and China, South Korea and Japan, China and the ASEAN nations that could spark wars, even nuclear wars.
