Dear Supporter,

Because we're on a roll!

In just two short weeks, we've already collected thousands of signatures on our petition to President Obama prevent war with Iran. Now, Peace Action chapters across the country are stepping it up and gathering signatures in their communities.

And we're not alone! Our petition has even spread to other organizations. Trita Parsi, the President of the National Iranian American Council, praised the campaign. Phone calls and emails continue to pour in asking us to keep up the great work.

Given all of this momentum, we've decided to extend the campaign for two more weeks. We will now deliver our first wave of signatures to the White House on February 14.

Help us keep the momentum going! Click here to email the petition to your friends before February 14.

We're not a moment too soon.

According to published reports this morning, Israel issued a blunt and warning that 'time is running out' for Iran to end its nuclear program, leaving the Obama administration worried such an attack may happen this year. At the time, the administration is moving ahead with its own plans.

Earlier this week, it was reported that US spy agencies believe Iran is prepared to launch a terrorist attack inside the US. The report, which made the front page of the Washington Post, pointed out US intelligence officials had seen no intelligence to indicate the active plotting of such attacks, but it often seems it's the headlines that stick, stirring up rationales for war that are not discredited until it's too late.

Also in the news, the US plans to deploy a floating base in the Persian Gulf that will provide a forward staging area for everything from minesweepers to commandos, designed to prevent Iran from following through in its threat to close the Strait of Hormuz.  The Pentagon also announced it is developing a new bunker buster bomb after it became clear that the U.S.'s largest bomb, the Massive Ordnance Penetrator, is not capable of destroying Iran's most heavily fortified underground facilities.

These provocative actions in preparation for war can’t possibly be helping diplomatic efforts, such as the team of senior United Nations nuclear inspectors in Tehran this week. After successful meetings were reported by both sides, the UN plans to return in three weeks for another series of visits.

Now that you've signed, help increase our impact! Share this link with your friends and family before February 14: http://bit.ly/yDlbjn

Another war is not what we need. As the election year unfolds, Peace Action will continue to push for rational alternatives to unnecessary conflict. Over the next several weeks, we will keep you updated on our efforts to prevent war with Iran and other actions you can take to help prevent it.

Humbly for Peace,

Kevin Martin
