Dear Supporter,
I am going to Wisconsin to work on the Rob Zerban Campaign in the First Congressional District, one of the most critical campaigns in the country.
It is a David vs Goliath challenge to unseat a Congressional Representative who authored, and led, the drive for an extreme, outside the mainstream budget scheme to shred the social safety net and pour more money into the Pentagon budget. (And who now is running for vice president – yep I’m talking about Paul Ryan!)
Help fund the organizing I will do in the First Congressional District to mobilize peace and justice voters to take on Paul Ryan.
This summer, the Roman Catholic social justice group, Network, took a 1,000-mile road trip from Wisconsin to Washington, DC to challenge Congressman Paul Ryan’s budget . It was called “Nuns on the Bus.”
Paul Ryan’s budget ends the guarantee of Medicare, slashes Medicaid and guts services for low-income families.
I believe as the “Nuns on the Bus” do that the federal budget, just like the Constitution and Bill of Rights, are moral documents which guide and at times, dictate how we function as a society, and therefore reflect, our core values.
Help me and Peace Action elect a candidate who shares our peace and justice values.
Rob Zerban believes that we should cut the military budget by 25% to fund jobs and community services.1 While Paul Ryan voted to shred the social safety net, turn Social Security into a voucher program and continue to pour scarce federal resources into the bloated Pentagon budget.
Rob Zerban agrees with us, that increased Pentagon spending destroys our nation’s capacity to create jobs compared to spending the same amount for domestic needs and services. 2
Support the grassroots peace voter mobilization that I will organize alongside of our affiliate Peace Action Wisconsin. We are geared up to organize peace activists in the 1st Congressional District to distribute thousands of Peace Action’s Peace Voter Guides and mobilize the pro-peace vote!
It is no surprise that Paul Ryan’s campaign has raised more than four times the amount raised by Rob Zerban’s campaign.
You can help to turn the tables by supporting the mobilization of the biggest peace and justice vote possible in this critical campaign.
It takes a fight to win!
Power to the peaceful,
Judith LeBlanc
