Volunteers Still Needed for Arlington Community Bike Ride

The Arlington Community Bike Ride is just a week away, and we still need volunteers! The 17 mile county tour and 8 mile family loop showcases all that Arlington County has to offer cycling for transportation and recreation. If you frequent the W&OD, 4-Mile Run or Mt. Vernon Trails consider helping show other area cyclists what wonderful facilities these are. Help is still needed to marshal the ride, work registration and help with the children's bike rodeo. For more information contact Jeff Peel at Jeff@waba.org or call the WABA office at 202.518.0524.

Are you a member of a regional cycling or civic organization and looking to do some community outreach? Are you and your coworkers looking for something to do together on Memorial Day Weekend? We are still looking for a group of 5 or more to staff the Bluemont Junction Rest Stop on the family ride. For more information contact Jeff Peel at Jeff@waba.org or call the WABA office at 202.518.0524.

Section Captains needed for the Coalition for the Met Branch Trail

WABA is looking for members to help us lead our campaign to get the Met Branch Trail built. Section Captains will be responsible for keeping WABA regularly informed of the state of the trail in your area, recruiting volunteers to post fliers and other outreach materials, and mobilizing your friends, neighbors and fellow bicyclists to get this trail built. It's been 8 years since construction began on the trail, and it's time that the trail be made a priority. For more information and to tell Mayor Williams to start asking why the trail isn't a priority, click here. To sign up, contact Susanna at susanna@waba.org.

Sign up to be a Commuter Mentor!

With gas prices continuing to climb, more and more people are turning to bicycles as a mode of transportation. One of the largest stumbling blocks for would-be bike commuters is finding a safe and efficient route from Point A to Point B. WABA has been pairing up new and experienced commuters for over 20 years. As people begin trying to commute in from further and further out, we need to find mentors in the more outlying suburbs, as well as update our contact info of former mentors. Live in Manassas, Bowie or Louden County and want to help? Have you been a mentor in the past and have since changed addresses or phone numbers? Get in touch! Contact Jeff Peel at Jeff@waba.org or call the WABA office at 202.518.0524.
