Thank you for Registering for Flooding the Headwaters of the Anacostia River Ride! Thank you for registering for the Flooding the Headwaters of the Anacostia River Ride, Saturday, July 8th. You have registered for the NorthEast Branch portion of the ride, scheduled to leave from Greenbelt Metro at 9:00am. This tour, in partnership with Earth Conservation Corps, offers a rare opportunity to trace the Anacostia River from its headwaters to the mouth of the Potomac River by combining bicycles and boats.Total time of the bike and boat tour can be expected to take about four and-a-half to five hours. If you haven't donated already, there is a suggested donation of $10(or more!) per rider to defray fuel and staff expenses. Participants should bring a lunch, water and ID. Please note that the ride, regardless of start location, will require some on street riding. Also, helmets are mandatory. Since this tour is not a loop, riders should plan to use metro, car-pool or ride to the start locations listed. The green line’s Navy Yard Station is only 4 blocks from the finish at Earth Conservation Corps headquarters.
The mission of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association is to create a healthy, more livable region by promoting bicycling for fun, fitness and affordable transportation; advocating better bicycling conditions and transportation choices for a healthier environment; and educating children, adults and motorists about safe bicycling.
The Earth Conservation Corps is a nonprofit youth development and environmental service organization founded in 1989 in one of our nation's most disadvantaged communities, Southeast Washington, DC. We provide hands-on education, environmental training, professional experience, and leadership skills for disadvantaged young people ages 17-25 (called Corps members), as they work to restore the Anacostia River and surrounding communities. |
