Flooding the Headwaters of the Anacostia River Ride CANCELLED

Due to the storms of the past few weeks, the Flooding of the Headwaters of the Anacostia River Ride and Pontoon Boat Tour has been cancelled. The heavy rains have washed away several bridges along portions of the tributary trails along with dumping silt and mud upon the portions that remained. Our hopes were that trails would be cleaned and repaired in time for the ride to happen, but in the interest of safety we must cancel the ride.  Along with trails being flooded, Earth Conservation Corps suffered a setback when the storms sunk one of the flatbead boats to be used during the tour.

WABA and ECC are currently trying to reschedule the event for early fall. We will transfer your registration from this ride to the next one and give you first choice of routes. If you would rather we refund your donation, please contact Susanna at susanna@waba.org. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Earth Conservation Corps
The ANACOSTIA RIVERKEEPER program of the Earth Conservation Corps now offers both Service Days and EcoTours on the Anacostia River. Once considered the “Forgotten River” the Earth Conservation Corps works to raise awareness about the river while engaging young people from the surrounding communities to reclaim the River, their communities, and their lives. To find out more about the threats to the Anacostia and the opportunities for preservation, conservation and sustainable development or want to sign-up for a Service Day please contact Josh Burch, Anacostia Riverkeeper Service Coordinator, at (202) 554-1960 ext. 103 or at jburch@ecc1.org

The mission of the Washington Area Bicyclist Association is to create a healthy, more livable region by promoting bicycling for fun, fitness and affordable transportation; advocating better bicycling conditions and transportation choices for a healthier environment; and educating children, adults and motorists about safe bicycling.

The Earth Conservation Corps is a nonprofit youth development and environmental service organization founded in 1989 in one of our nation's most disadvantaged communities, Southeast Washington, DC. We provide hands-on education, environmental training, professional experience, and leadership skills for disadvantaged young people ages 17-25 (called Corps members), as they work to restore the Anacostia River and surrounding communities.
