Sign on and speak up to adopt the Comprehensive Plan in 2006
A major overhaul of the District’s Comprehensive Plan is entering the home stretch. After two years of community, ANC, and task force meetings and workshops, the Council will hold public hearings beginning September 26.
Your help in getting the Comp Plan adopted in 2006 is critical. Some have called for delaying adoption of the Comp Plan. A delay past the scheduled Council consideration in 2006 could be inordinate. Delaying adoption would dishonor the participation of thousands of residents who gave their time and effort to crafting this plan. The current Mayor and Council have moved planning to a new level within the District. Delaying Comp Plan adoption would only repeat previous poor government practices of a bygone era.
E-mail or call your councilmembers to tell them to adopt the Comp Plan in 2006. Look up your councilmember at: http://www.dccouncil.washington.dc.us/ or e-mail: dccouncilmembers@dccouncil.us; call Chairman Cropp’s office: Tel. 724-8032
Testify at the Sept. 26 hearing. Sign up to testify in beginning at 12 noon or at 6 pm, contact: Aretha Latta, Committee of the Whole, at 724-8196, by e-mail at alatta@dccouncil.us. The public hearing will be in Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W.
