|
 |
|
|

Join WABA, the Capitol Riverfront BID, and Forest City as we celebrate the Full Harvest Moon and the opening of the brand new Yards Park! The Yards Park is a beautiful new park along the SE Waterfront close to Nationals Stadium and is a great location for the start/finish of our bike rides and fun before hand!
The fun will begin as WABA watches as the Washington Nationals take on the Houston Astros at 4:35pm. Tickets for this game will be available shortly! And don't forget- the Nationals offer free bike valet parking! Following the game, we will walk over to the Yards Park where there will be food trucks if you're hungry, community groups and bike shops to talk shop with and more.
Beginning at 7:30pm, riders can check-in with WABA or register on-site for one of our two rides. At 8:30pm, WABA will have an 11-mile ride leaving the Yards Park heading west along the Potomac River taking in sights along the way including Hains Point, the Lincoln Memorial, and National Mall. At 9pm, a 6-mile ride will depart heading over the Anacostia River into Anacostia Park and Historic Anacostia.

Hill and Go Seek
Saturday, August 28, 2010, 5pm to 8pm
Whether you are a bicycle enthusiast or just like a good competition, Hill and Go Seek is for you. For a $20 entry fee, teams of two are invited to participate in this scavenger hunt style bicycle race for the thrill of victory and some amazing prizes.
Partnered with Capitol Hill Bikes, The Office of Tommy Wells, DDOT's Capital Bikeshare and the Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA), Hill and Go Seek will put the riders to the test - creatively and physically. Starting at 5 pm, teams will be given a list of ten points of interest throughout Capitol Hill. 24 Hours of Booty
August 28-29, 2010 - Columbia, MD

24 Hours of Booty is the official 24-hour ride of the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which brings cyclists of all abilities together to raise vital funds for cancer research and survivorship. 24 Hours of Booty Columbia will celebrate its third year and host 800 + riders who will raise more than $250,000 for cancer research and survivorship.
The Booty Loop in Columbia is a 2.1 mile loop. The Loop has a mixture of hills and flats that will challenge riders over the 24 hours. Cheer stations and bands will be set up along the course to encourage the riders while riding. At the center of it all is Bootyville, hosted by Merkle, Inc.. Bootyville becomes its own little city and also serves as the event headquarters over the 24 hours. Riders set up campsites and canopies that they can sleep, or more importantly, rest and relax with friends off of the bike. Bootyville also is the site of our expo area where our corporate sponsors set up shop and offer a range of services including 24 hour bike support, raffles for special items and information about their services. Because of of the Booty Loop's central location and Columbia's close-knit community, you will find family and friends out supporting the riders at all hours.
Along with the national beneficiary, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, 24 Hours of Booty supports the Ulman Cancer Fund.

EUNICE KENNEDY SHRIVER CHALLENGE
Saturday, October 23, 2010
On October 23, Eunice Kennedy Shriver's legacy will be commemorated by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge: a 20-mile bike ride, 5K run, 3K walk, Youth Fun Run, and a series of Criterium Friendship Races all hosted on the National Mall. In addition to friends and admirers of Mrs. Shriver, hundreds of Best Buddies participants and Special Olympics athletes are expected to take part in this recreational event that will celebrate Mrs. Shriver's love of sports and friendship. The day will conclude with an awards celebration and private luncheon at the foot of the Washington Monument.
Mrs. Shriver had one vision - to show the world that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) could achieve and thrive in society. Her vision and legacy live on through two organizations - Best Buddies and Special Olympics. To further ensure Mrs. Shriver's legacy lives on, Best Buddies and Special Olympics are partnering in 2010 on an event in the nation's capital, the inaugural Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge sponsored by Audi. Through this event, the two movements will build more communities of inclusion.
To start a team for your family, friends, business, church, school, or to simply sign-up as an individual, please visit www.ekschallenge.org or contact Participant Coach Ted McCartan at: tedmccartan@bestbuddies.org.
