Volunteer Night!
September 15th, 2010
Have you thought about volunteering with WABA but never really got around to doing it? Now is your chance! Typically held on the 1st and 3rd wednesday of each month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, we invite everyone and anyone to come by the WABA office and help stuff membership packets, and brainstorm future volunteer efforts. Did we mention that we will be providing food and drinks?
WABA volunteer nights are a fun way to get to know other cyclists in the DC area and a simple way to help advocate for better bicycling. Do you have a list of ideas for volunteer opportunities you would like to see us offer? Do you want to play a larger role in helping WABA's advocacy efforts? Now is your chance.

Bike Valet Supervisors Needed
Ongoing...

As many of you know from volunteering or using our Bicycle Valet Service, this past year we had a record numbers of attendees. To prepare for upcoming bike valets we are looking for individuals to serve as Volunteer Bike Valet Supervisors. As a supervisor you will plan and help create a more efficient bike valet by attending volunteer meetings and managing valets at WABA events. There is a lot of work to be done with every valet that we do and having a core group of volunteers to help organize and coordinate the valets will make our Bike Valet Program an indispensable asset to cyclists in the DC area.
To volunteer contact danny@waba.org or call 202-518-0524 X209.
Volunteers Needed for Back Roads Century
Sunday, September 19, 2010

We're looking for rest stop volunteers to serve food, parking attendants in the morning, SAG drivers to assist cyclists on the road, and more. All of our jobs are a half day or less, therefore you can work and also ride in our event. The best part is that volunteers ride for free, and you'll also receive a free Back Roads Century t-shirt!
Please review the Volunteer page on our website for current job openings and times - http://www.backroadscentury.org/volunteer
To volunteer, use the contact form on our website or contact the event director below, with the volunteer position that interests you.
2 Bartenders Needed For The Ben Sollee Concert To Benefit WABA
Saturday September 25, 2010
This one is for music lovers. To cap off the 50 State Ride, WABA will be co-hosting a concert with genre-busting cellist and bike enthusiast Ben Sollee. This will be part of Ben's "Ditch the Van" tour, on which he'll be touring the country by bike to raise awareness for biking as an alternative form of transportation.
Ben is a 26 year old classically-trained cellist, whose early influences include Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, Billie Holiday and Otis Redding. His music blends elements of folk, jazz, soul and bluegrass. He'll be playing with a percussionist and will forever change the way you look at the cello.
In 2007, NPR's Morning Edition named Ben as one of its Top 10 Unknown Artists. Over the past year, he's been a featured artist at Bonnaroo, the Newport Folk Festival, SXSW and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. He's currently on tour as a duo with Jim James, the lead singer and guitarist for the super-group, My Morning Jacket.
The two volunteers will be responsible for serving beer and wine for about 90 minutes before the show and to help a bit with cleanup. They'll also be able to catch most or all of the show, which will be held in a black box theater in downtown D.C., with the sound provided by the 9:30 Club.
If your interested in volunteering, email douglas.mangel@dbr.com
