 Full Moon Ride - September 23, 2010

Full Moon Light
September 23, 2010

Join WABA, the Capitol Riverfront BID, and Forest City as we celebrate the full moon and the opening of the brand new Yards Park! The Yards Park is a beautiful new park along the SE Waterfront close to Nationals Stadium and is a great location for the start/finish of our bike rides!

The fun will begin as WABA watches the Washington Nationals take on the Houston Astros at 4:35pm. Tickets for this game will be available now! And don't forget the Nationals offer free bike valet parking! Following the game, we will walk over to the Yards Park where there will be food trucks, community groups, bike shops and more to enjoy before the ride.

Beginning at 7:30pm, riders can check-in with WABA or register on-site for one of our two rides. At 8:30pm, WABA will have an 11-mile ride leaving the Yards Park heading west along the Potomac River taking in sights along the way including Hains Point, the Lincoln Memorial, and National Mall. At 9pm, a 6-mile ride will depart heading over the Anacostia River into Anacostia Park and Historic Anacostia.

WABA Partnered Event
Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge
Saturday, October 23, 2010

On October 23, Eunice Kennedy Shriver's legacy will be commemorated by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge: a 20-mile bike ride, 5K run, 3K walk, Youth Fun Run, and a series of Criterium Friendship Races all hosted on the National Mall. In addition to friends and admirers of Mrs. Shriver, hundreds of Best Buddies participants and Special Olympics athletes are expected to take part in this recreational event that will celebrate Mrs. Shriver's love of sports and friendship. The day will conclude with an awards celebration and private luncheon at the foot of the Washington Monument.

Mrs. Shriver had one vision - to show the world that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) could achieve and thrive in society. Her vision and legacy live on through two organizations - Best Buddies and Special Olympics. To further ensure Mrs. Shriver's legacy lives on, Best Buddies and Special Olympics are partnering in 2010 on an event in the nation's capital, the inaugural Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge sponsored by Audi. Through this event, the two movements will build more communities of inclusion.

To start a team for your family, friends, business, church, school, or to simply sign-up as an individual, please visit www.ekschallenge.org or contact Participant Coach Ted McCartan at: tedmccartan@bestbuddies.org
