New Year's Resolution Ride

Traditionally, the start of the new calendar year is a time to reflect on the year that is ending and to resolve to make positive changes in the year that is beginning. We at WABA are resolving to ride more responsibly and we want everybody who rides a bike to join us in this effort. Using the road responsibly isn't about laws or lane markings, it's about respecting other road users. We all have the right to use the roads, but with that right comes the responsibility to use them respectfully. Help WABA and your fellow DC area bicyclists make the roads safer and more fun for everybody by riding more responsibly in 2011!

Volunteer Night
Wednesday, January 5th at 6:30pm

Have you thought about volunteering with WABA but never really got around to doing it? Now is your chance! Typically held on the 1st and 3rd wednesday of each month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, we invite everyone and anyone to come by the WABA office and help stuff envelops, prepare event materials, assembling lights or whatever else is needed. Did we mention that we will be providing food and drinks?

WABA volunteer nights are a fun way to get to know other cyclists in the DC area and a simple way to help advocate for better bicycling. Do you have a list of ideas for volunteer opportunities you would like to see us offer? Do you want to play a larger role in helping WABA's advocacy efforts? Now is your chance.

So You Want to be a DC Bike Ambassador?
Wednesday, January 12th, 2011 at 6:00pm 

We're recruiting enthusiastic and outgoing volunteer Bike Ambassadors (BAs) to represent WABA and put a smiling face on bicycling. And the next DC Bike Ambassador volunteer orientation is just around the corner.

The orientation meeting is a chance for Daniel, our Bike Ambassador, to meet volunteers face-to-face and lay out the BA program. Please plan to spend about an hour, and we will provide food. If this sounds good to you, please email Daniel at dcba@waba.org

NBC4 Health and Fitness Expo
Saturday, January 15- Sunday, January 16, 2011
Washington Convention Center

Get Ready for the WABA Kids Bike Rodeo at the 2011 NBC 4 Health and Fitness Expo. In past years we have served up to 900 kids in this 2-day event. Bring the kids to practice bicycling skills as well as participate in the hundreds of other free activities at this great free event. Volunteer with WABA! WABA is in need of dedicated and patient volunteers that can help us put as many kids on bikes at this event as possible.

Volunteers will help show children how to properly fit bicycle helmets, perform a bicycle inspection, and navigate the bicycle skills course.
