Dear Virginia WABA Members and Supporters:
This year's legislative session in Richmond presents another opportunity to improve the safety of cyclists on Virginia's roadways. Specifically, WABA is asking its Virginia supporters to encourage their representatives to support HB 1683 and SB 928 by signing on as co-patron prior to the committee hearing, as well as to vote in support of the bills.
These bills--nearly identical in language--would prohibit motorists from following or passing bicyclists too closely, and would raise Virginia's minimum safe distance for passing bicyclists to 3 feet.
As we know, similar bills were defeated last year, so vocal support from cyclists is critical to passage of this potentially life-saving change.
Please use the "Who's My Legislator" form to find your state senator and delegate, and contact them urging co-patronage and support of HB 1683 and SB 928 to support cyclist safety.
Thank you,
WABA
