Volunteer Night!

Have you thought about volunteering with WABA but never really got around to doing it? Now is your chance! Typically held on the 1st and 3rd wednesday of each month from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, we invite everyone and anyone to come by the WABA office and help stuff membership packets, and brainstorm future volunteer efforts.

WABA volunteer nights are a fun way to get to know other cyclists in the DC area and a simple way to help advocate for better bicycling. Do you have a list of ideas for volunteer opportunities you would like to see us offer? Do you want to play a larger role in helping WABA's advocacy efforts? Now is your chance.

2011 Cherry Blossom Festival - Bike Valet
March 26 & 27, April 2 & 3 and April 9 & 10 - 9am to 6pm

The cherry blossoms are back and so are the festivities of the National Cherry Blossom Festival! WABA will be back again this year providing our bike valet services. Bike down to the event, leave your bike with us, and come pick it up when you are ready to go. We'll be there all three weekends, ready to hang out with your bike while you enjoy the sights! Thanks to the National Park Service and goDCgo for their support.

Bike Valet at the Fireworks for the National Cherry Blossom Festival

We'll be stationed at the Southwest Waterfront (7th and Water St., SW) for firework attendees. Help park bikes and get a great view of the fireworks.

National Sustainable Design Expo Bike Valet
April 16th (10:00 am to 5:00 pm) and 17th (10:00 am to 3:00 pm)

The expo will be on the National Mall and will bring together students, scientists, engineers, and business leaders whose innovative technologies are designed to advance economic growth while reducing environmental impact.

So You Want to be a DC Bike Ambassador?
Wednesday, March 30, 6pm, at the WABA office

We're actively recruiting volunteer Bike Ambassadors (BAs) to represent WABA and put a smiling face on bicycling. And the next DC Bike Ambassador volunteer orientation is coming up. We're looking for enthusiastic and engaged cyclists who are interested in joining the volunteer Ambassadors in spreading the word about bicycling!

The Ambassador orientation is the first step in becoming a volunteer Ambassador. It's basically a chance for Daniel, our Bike Ambassador coordinator to meet all the volunteers face-to-face and to lay out the BA program. If you're interested in coming to the next orientation meeting, please email him at dcba@waba.org to RSVP.

After your orientation, you'll be asked to sign up for one of our Confident City Cycling classes and to commit to helping out at a real live BA event.

ADA's Cherry Blossom Family Bike Rally & Ride
Sunday, April 10, 2011

Come out and celebrate the last weekend of the National Cherry Blossom Festival by checking out the American Diabetes Association Cherry Blossom Family Bike Rally and Ride. This fun and FREE event features a kids bike rodeo, a kids Learn 2 Ride two wheels training course, balloons, a signed family group ride and more!
