Washington Area Bicyclist Association Presents 2011 "Bike Fest"

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) announces new fundraiser for 2011. “This year, instead of our traditional black-tie gala, we decided to get back to what made us all get on a bike in the first place: the fun!” said WABA Executive Director Shane Farthing, “Bike Fest is a fundraiser for WABA, but it is a great event for everyone who enjoys bikes.  With the support of Boeing, the Crystal City BID, and Vornado we’ve found an incredible, unique space for a fun, unique event” he added.

Come enjoy a celebration of all things cycling including carnival-style food, drink, and dessert provided by Scoops2U. There's something for everyone at Bikefest: art bikes, carnival games, a silent auction and raffle, sideshow performances, live music and dancing featuring DC's Second String Band, free palm readings, a photobooth, and much more!

The highlight of the evening will be a showcase of WABA's first-ever Bike Build Contest. Three regional bike shops are going head-to-head by creating custom bicycles with only 3 rules - builders can't spend over $250, may use recycled parts, and MUST be as creative as possible! This year's participants are Oasis Bike Works, City Bikes and Papillon Cycles. Guests will crown Bike Fest's Best Builder of 2011 with a combination of their votes and a live auction, which means three lucky attendees will take home their very own handcrafted bikes. We'll have other items up for auction and raffle, including a brand new Trek Allant bike from Revolution Cycles. All proceeds from the evening will benefit WABA's advocacy, outreach, and education programs. WABA is the region's leading voice promoting cycling in two local governments, in the classroom and on the streets.
