Washington Area Bicyclist Association
Getting There by Bike Since 1972

 Dear Supporter,

Thank you for signing up to support WABA's efforts to pass the "Protection of Bicyclists from Assault and Harassment Act."  We have nearly reached a milestone, as the bill will be introduced in the DC Council on Tuesday by Councilmembers Evans, Graham, Wells, and possibly others.

This is a step forward, and we are grateful that after hundreds of hours of work drafting, re-drafting, researching, engaging with the legal community, and answering the questions of councilmembers and their staffs--the bill is ready to formally enter the legislative process.

But while we celebrate this step, it is a beginning rather than an ending.

Not all councilmembers have indicated support for the bill, and we must continue to work to highlight the need for this sort of law protecting bicyclists from dangerous--and sometimes deadly--assault and harassment.

I thank you for your support.  We will continue to push forward, and will be monitoring the bill's progress closely to engage you--the law's supporters--to make your voice heard when it will be most effective.

If you are able, we would also appreciate your financial support as we continue to push for this bill and for greater protection of cyclists throughout the region.  It is the contributions of those who believe in and benefit from our work that enable us to spend the many hours advocating for a better region for bicyclists.  Please help us to see this through to the end.

Sincerely,

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association
