Washington Area Bicyclist Association
Getting There by Bike Since 1972

Dear Montgomery County Cyclists,

Mark your calendar for these key advocacy meetings in the County.  Come join your fellow cyclists and help ensure that our voices are heard!

Park, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) Plan Update

Down-County Open House: Tuesday, January 24, 5:30-8:30pm.  MNCPPC Montgomery Regional Office, 8787 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD

Up-County Open House: Wednesday, January 25, 5:30-8:30pm. Up-County Regional Services Center, Meeting Room A, 12900 Middlebrook Rd., Germantown, MD

These open-house style meetings will take resident input on the next ten years of park and recreation priorities and needs, including trails and facilities.  Learn more about the meetings on the Montgomery Co. Park's website.

Transportation & Environment Hearing on the Capital Crescent Trail Design Issues

Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) has requested additional time to complete its review and analysis of the Capital Crescent Trail design issues, including the crossing of Wisconsin Avenue.  The issue is now scheduled for March 8, 2:00 pm at the Transportation and Environment Committee Hearing.

The County Budget

As you likely know, the County Executive released the proposed budget earlier this week.  We are reviewing the proposal and are initially concerned about progress on a number of projects and initiatives--most notably the construction of the Metropolitan Branch Trail.  Once our review and analysis is complete, we will again be asking for your support as we seek a budget that matches the stated ideals of our bike-friendly and transportation-progressive officials.

Thank you for working to make Montgomery County a more bicycle friendly community.  If you are planning on attending any of these meetings, please send us an email and let us know.  We hope to have bicyclists well represented at these important meetings.

Sincerely,
Shane Farthing
WABA Executive Director
